Dangerous Algal Blooms Lead to Emergency Communication Platform Launch
Problem
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (Florida DEP) is responsible for monitoring air & water pollution, overseeing wetlands & shorelines, and manages more than 10,000 state lands including 175 state parks.
In 2020, they faced harmful algal blooms and needed a real-time alert system, but their existing platform lacked essential capabilities.
What We Did
- Modernized the GovDelivery list-based email delivery platform with Salesforce Marketing Cloud
- Personalized a preference center and a map-based approach to select the location and preference to opt-into alerts based on the water bodies residents are interested in, on a Florida map associated with ProtectingFloridaTogether.gov website
- Streamlined marketing and engagement process for agency and residents
- Enabled 35 agency users through hands on training exercises and increased adoption of the new modernized system
Outcome
Florida DEP rapidly applied a communication platform implemented within six months, saving lives and impacting businesses significantly. The long-term benefits continue to make a positive impact on the community. The platform enables faster audience segmentation and personalized emails for subscribers interested in specific water bodies.
